In today’s advanced electronic systems, EMI shielding can’t just block interference, it also needs to be lightweight, flexible, and durable enough to withstand long-term use in harsh environments. Traditional metal braids, while effective at shielding, come with trade-offs: they’re heavy, bulky, limit flexibility, and make installation more difficult, especially in tight or dynamic spaces.
ARACON from Micro-Coax was designed to meet these exact challenges. It combines the high strength of DuPont™ Kevlar fibers with the conductivity of nickel and the solderability of silver, creating a composite braid that’s up to 80% lighter than copper. You get excellent EMI/RFI protection, lightning protection, and mechanical reliability- without the weight or rigidity of metal.

ARACON Braided EMI Shields are pre-braided “socks” made from ultra-fine, highly flexible ARACON fibers, ready to be installed over cables or harnesses to deliver exceptional electromagnetic interference protection.
The fine ARACON yarn bundles naturally flatten and spread during braiding, providing coverage levels typically exceeding 90% and minimizing windowing for superior EMI suppression. With a high surface-to-volume ratio, ARACON Braided Shields offer excellent RF EMI shielding while remaining significantly lighter than traditional AA59569 plated-copper braids.
Thanks to ARACON’s strength and compatibility with standard braiding equipment, these shields can also be combined with metal wire to form hybrid constructions—typically 75% ARACON and 25% plated copper. This blend offers a balanced combination of reduced DC resistance, enhanced low-frequency shielding (below 100 MHz), and lightning protection, while maintaining exceptional weight savings.

ARACON fibers combine the conductivity of an outer metal coating with the strength, light weight, and flexibility of aramid fibers. ARACON fibers are based on the same technology that created Kevlar, well known for its use in bullet resistant vests, high speed boats, and military helmets.
ARACON fibers represent a new class of conductive fibers ideally suited for EMI shields on cables and harnesses, especially where weight savings is important. When braided or woven, the natural tendency for the fine, lightweight fibers is to spread out for high optical coverage. This translates into superior shielding effectiveness versus copper wire.
ARACON is available in various sizes with both a nickel or silver finish. All ARACON fibers provide
a versatile combination of physical and electrical properties for a variety of demanding applications. Custom configurations, multiple ends, and put-ups are available upon request.
